Community Upskilling recently brought community members together for our Love Your Heart cardiovascular awareness event, an afternoon dedicated to learning more about heart health, understanding blood pressure and making healthier everyday choices.

The session gave participants the opportunity to learn about cardiovascular disease and hypertension, including what systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings mean, the importance of knowing your numbers, and practical steps that can help support a healthier heart.
Our guest speaker, Mimi, shared valuable information about blood pressure, healthy eating and the importance of staying physically active. Participants also learned about reducing salt consumption, making informed food choices and incorporating more movement into their daily lives.
The event included a guest speaker presentation and Q&A, light exercise, a quiz, healthy refreshments and free blood pressure checks, creating an engaging and supportive environment where everyone could learn and ask questions.
What Our Participants Said
The feedback from those who attended showed just how valuable health awareness can be.
One participant explained that she had arrived knowing very little about high blood pressure but left with a much better understanding of how it can affect health. She described the session as informative and said she had learned something new that would help her take better care of herself.
Another participant shared how the session had encouraged her to think more carefully about what she eats and the importance of keeping active. She said she was very happy to have taken part and appreciated having the opportunity to learn more about living a healthier life.
Rosa, who attended the session, also spoke about what she had learned:
“We learned about hypertension, how we can measure blood pressure, what systolic and diastolic pressure mean, and the normal ranges. We also learned about what foods we can eat and how our heart works. It was really nice to attend the class.”
Hearing directly from our participants reminds us why sessions like these matter. Access to clear and practical health information can help people feel more confident about understanding their health and making positive choices.
At Community Upskilling, we are committed to empowering our community through health awareness, helping people build the knowledge and confidence they need to look after themselves and one another.
A big thank you to everyone who attended and shared their experiences, to Mimi for delivering an informative session, and to everyone who helped make the event possible.
