Ahead of the local elections next week, our English Conversation session focused on Living in Salford: Community, Law and Everyday Life, with a special focus on the UK Government system and voting.
Together, we explored how the UK Government works, including Local Authorities, Councils, MPs, Local and General Elections, voting systems and more. Participants also shared how voting works in their own countries, which led to thoughtful and engaging discussions.
We learned about the right to vote, where to vote, and some of the key conditions for voting, such as being registered and being aged 18 or over in England. We also discussed important terms including democracy, referendum and proxy voting.
At the end of the class, we offered one-to-one support, and we were very touched to receive this kind feedback:

Moments like this remind us why community learning matters. Thank you to everyone who joined, shared, listened and supported one another.
