We Are Family: Celebrating the ‘100 Your Salford’ Centenary Exhibition

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Salford Community Upskilling CIC has played a special role in marking a historic milestone for our city. As Salford celebrates its centenary in 2026, we are proud to be amongst the 100 groups and individuals selected to curate the 100 Your Salford exhibition at the Salford Museum and Art Gallery.

It was a privilege to visit the gallery, meet with representatives from Salford City Council—including City Mayor Paul Dennett—and see our contribution on display.

Our Choice: The ‘Family Group’

For this exhibition, we were asked to choose an object that tells a story. We selected ‘Family Group’, a beautiful carved wood sculpture from the 1960s by Graham Bentham.

Why did we choose this piece?

For us, this sculpture is a perfect symbol of unity and love. It represents exactly who we are at Salford Community Upskilling. We are more than just an organization; we are a family. We stand together and support each other, just as family members do.

Proud Salfordians

This exhibition isn’t just about looking back at the last 100 years; it is about celebrating the vibrant, diverse community that Salford is today. We are incredibly proud to be Salfordians and to represent the multicultural heritage that has enriched this city over the last century.

As written on the plaque accompanying our chosen object: “We chose this object as we felt that it well represents us… We are a group and see ourselves as a family.”
