Creativity & Wellbeing: Our New Project with the Salford Creative Health Network

We have some exciting news to share! Salford Community Upskilling has been selected as one of only eight VCSE (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise) groups in the city to help lead a major new initiative: the Salford Creative Health Action Plan.

What is “Creative Health”?
We all know that doing something creative—whether it’s crafting, drawing, dancing, or making music—can give us a huge boost. It helps us express ourselves, takes our minds off our worries, and connects us with other people.

As the Salford Creative Health Network puts it: “This link between creativity and wellbeing is often called ‘Creative Health’.”

Our Role in the Project
The goal of this city-wide project is to bring arts organizations and health services closer together to support people with the greatest health needs. We want to prove how creativity improves lives and bring more funding into Salford to support this work.

We are proud to announce that Salford Community Upskilling will be working specifically in Pendleton and Charlestown. We will be collaborating with refugees and asylum seekers to create textile art pieces.

Through these sessions, we aren’t just making art; we are exploring identity, heritage, and the power of making things with our hands to heal and connect.

We Need Your Voice!
A massive part of this project is listening to you. We are helping to write the “Salford Creative Health Action Plan” (set to be published in April 2026), and we want the views of local people to be at the heart of it.

As we run our sessions, we are consulting with the community on five key questions. We’d love for you to think about these, too:

  1. What does creativity (or culture and heritage) mean to you?
  2. How does creativity improve your wellbeing?
  3. What are the biggest barriers to creativity and wellbeing in Salford?
  4. What are the biggest opportunities?
  5. Aside from more funding and better transport, what are the top 3 things you would like to see in Salford to help people be more creative?

Get Involved
Your participation in our projects helps shape how the entire city approaches health and happiness in the future.

We want to say a massive thank you to the Salford Creative Health Network and Salford Community Leisure for recognizing the value of our work and inviting us to be part of this vital conversation.
