A Week of Connection, Culture, and Support in Salford

It has been another busy and fulfilling week here at Salford Community Upskilling. From serious advocacy work to celebrating cultural traditions, this week perfectly encapsulated our mission: empowering our community, supporting asylum seekers and refugees, and ensuring that no one is left behind.

Here is a look at what we have been up to.

Standing Against Intolerance

We were honoured to attend the Hate Crime Ambassadors launch at HOST Salford. Creating a safe and welcoming environment is at the very heart of what we do. By engaging with this important initiative, we are reinforcing our commitment to stamping out intolerance and ensuring that Salford remains a place where everyone—regardless of their background or origin—feels safe, valued, and respected.

Tackling Digital Exclusion

In today’s world, internet access is a necessity, not a luxury. This week, we continued our efforts to break the cycle of digital exclusion by providing essential mobile data to those in need.

For our service users, having data is a lifeline. It means being able to contact family back home, search for employment, access online learning resources, and manage essential services. We are proud to provide these vital tools to help our community members stay connected.

Breaking the English Barrier

Our English language sessions have been a highlight of the week. Learning a new language is the first major step toward true integration, but it is also about building self-esteem. We are not just teaching grammar; we are giving people a voice. It has been wonderful to witness our learners growing more confident in their conversational skills, ready to navigate life in the UK with independence.

Celebrating with Traditional Dance

Finally, we believe that integration is not just about work and study; it is also about shared joy. Our week included some fantastic traditional dance sessions.
