Happy Mother’s Day, mothers!
Today, we are taking a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the incredible women at the heart of our community. As you can see from the lovely smiles in our latest group photo, we recently got together to share some food, laughter, and solidarity.
Looking around the table at our recent gathering, we were reminded of the sheer strength and resilience of the women we work with. Being a mum is a brilliant, beautiful, and often challenging job at the best of times. But for many of the women in our community—particularly the asylum seekers and refugees we are so proud to support—motherhood comes with the added hurdle of navigating a new country, a new culture, and often a new language.
Many of these incredible mums are building a safe and welcoming home for their children far away from the places they once knew. They are the ultimate pillars of strength.
Empowering Mums to Thrive
At Salford Community Upskilling, our mission has always been to help and support our local community to integrate, succeed, and feel a true sense of belonging. We know that when you empower a mother, you empower her entire family.
Through our English language classes, mums are building the confidence to speak with their children’s teachers, chat with neighbours, and navigate daily life in Greater Salford. Through our ICT courses and employability skills workshops, they are unlocking new opportunities to provide for their families and map out bright, independent futures.
But perhaps most importantly, as our recent meet-up shows, we are providing a safe space for women to come together. Sharing a cup of tea, swapping stories, and supporting one another is just as vital as the practical skills we teach. It is in these moments of connection that true integration happens.
So, to all the mums, grandmothers, aunties, and mother figures in our community and beyond: Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you for your boundless energy, your courage, and the love you pour into your families every single day. We are so proud to be part of your journey.
