Reliable internet access is fundamental in today’s world, essential for accessing education, employment opportunities, vital services, and maintaining social connections. However, for many individuals we support in Salford – including migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and low-income households – consistent and affordable connectivity remains a significant barrier. This digital exclusion can severely limit opportunities and hinder full participation in community life.
Salford Community Upskilling CIC actively works to address this challenge and bridge the digital divide through practical connectivity solutions. One key way we provide support is through our partnership with Jangala, an organisation specialising in reliable internet access solutions for challenging environments. Utilising their innovative technology, we are able to offer access to the Jangala Big Box. This powerful, portable device creates a high-quality Wi-Fi network suitable for community groups, shared households, or learning environments where standard internet options are unavailable or unaffordable, enabling group access to vital online resources.
Alongside group connectivity, we understand the need for individual and household internet access. To meet this need, we operate a mobile broadband SIM card giveaway program. This initiative provides eligible individuals and families with mobile broadband SIMs, offering essential personal internet connectivity for critical tasks like online learning, job searching, accessing healthcare portals, and communication. By offering both shared access solutions like the Jangala Big Box and individual support through our data SIM giveaway, we provide tangible pathways to overcome digital exclusion, ensuring more Salford residents have the essential connectivity required to learn, work, and thrive.
