Being there, where discussions about our community are happening, is how we help to shape lives.
It was great to see how Community Upskilling members are shaping our city through Creative Health, which led to Salford City Council’s Creative Health Master Plan.
At the Salford Creative Health Network meeting, held at Pendleton Gateway, we joined partners from across the city to explore what creative health means for Salford. The message was clear: creativity is not a luxury or an extra — it is a tool for our health and wellbeing.

The visual map set out five key actions for the city:
- Communication — celebrating creativity as something for everyone, not just those who see themselves as “good at art”
- Connection — making it easier for people to find creative health opportunities and support
- Listening — asking local people what they need in their neighbourhood
- Leadership — ensuring creativity is recognised as a tool for living well in Salford
- Partnership — working together so creativity is woven into daily life, from outdoor physical activity to bringing generations together
The Salford Way is simple: creativity is Salford’s way, it is how we work and it is our mindset. Greater Manchester wants to be the world’s first Creative Health City, and Salford is proud to play its part in that ambition.
Thank you to Salford City Council for bringing us along to this opportunity, and it was a pleasure to attend with Nicola from Salford CVS. Being in these rooms matters — because when our community is at the table, our community is heard.
